So sorry for your loss. It is pretty obvious why people leave after hitting someone with a car. I don't understand how they could possibly do it. A few seconds could save a life. You would think that if this woman knew she hit your son, she would have at least dialed 911 and told them of an accident before she left the scene. She will deserve what she gets providing it is a stiff punishment. Thank God for a fast arrest or she could have possibly did it again. Take comfort in knowing that now God has your son.

My name is Telesa Stanford and Gordon was my nephew. The woman that hit Gordon drove away. He was nobody to her but he was my nephew and I loved him. Several cars drove past him and they did not stop to help him. But Donald Bushey and Naufel Twymon did stop. They pulled my nephew out the road so that he would not get hit again by passing vehicles. They called for help and waited with him until they arrived. The most important thing they did was pray for him while my nephew was still living. Since hearing is the last thing to go I am comforted to know that Gordon knew he was not alone. The last thing he probably heard was the prayers of strangers. They didn't know him but they loved him and they showed compassion to him. He was such a sweet man. He was always willing to do anything for anybody. My nephew was nothing to the woman that ran him over but to us he was already our Angel. We love him and will miss him forever.

My name is Shnail Stone and I was the mother of his 3 children. I feel no compassion for this woman, who robbed my children of growing up without a father. How could you hit him and not look back is beyond me. This man had his whole life ahead of him and you took it from him in a second. Now he want get to see his kids get married, go off to college, or have children of their own. I hope you get the severest punishment the courts will allow.

I didn't know Gorden but I did know Jeff and his family. My heart goes out to both families. Such senseless tragedy's.

If you watch how folks drive this day and time, it's a wonder such things don't happen like this a lot more often. Folks take too many chances. They don't pay attention. They drive too fast for their ability or road conditions. Be careful folks, it may be you or your love one next!
  • JohnJ · 11 months ago
I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often the way you Alabama raised drivers drive. I've been in 2 accidents in 34 years of driving..both times I was T boned by women with no insurance. As a professional driver I think every one in the state should have to take a written and road test every 4 years go get the bad drivers off the road.
  • Renaie · 11 months ago
I do agree that people should have to take the test more than just once in your lifetime. Laws and the human body changes. Also, the law requires at least liability insurance and I wish they would inforce that more. You're lucky to ever get anything from someone who doesn't have insurance, even if they were in the wrong and didn't have insurance to top.
  • SouthernUncommonsense · 11 months ago
Alabama drivers? That is a joke right? Ignorant drivers come from everywhere and Alabama certainly has no monopoly on them. A lot more come from up north and can't drive. Look at the bad driving/wrecks in Florida cause by retired yankees. Need I say more?

Professional driver? So how long have you been in the taxi service? The influx of the "CDL" drivers that come from these "schools" are the main reason there are so many wrecks involving commercial vehicles. Putting people behind the wheel that should have kept their clerk job. Anyone can be taught to "aim" as you said, but the judgment and experience is not easily acquired.

As I have said before, make everyone pass a test by a real truck driver in a real truck before they get to drive a car. That alone would cut down on wrecks from ignorance more than anything else. Most folks have no idea why there are so many wrecks involving commercial vehicles ans passenger cars. The test now are a joke.
  • JohnJ · 11 months ago
Taxi service? Once again you have to lie to be seen here. I've never driven a taxi in my life. I have a Class A Commerical Drivers License. When you have one then you can speak from experience.

    You lied again. Why?
  • Dickiedoo · 11 months ago
It doesn't matter what kind of license you have. Anyone can do something stupid behind the wheel.
The thing is whether or not you're willing to take responsibility for being stupid beind the wheel.
  • SammyK · 11 months ago
I'm so sorry for the family and loved ones of this young man. I'm an Alabama driver and have been in the south for 11 years. I grew up north west of Chicago and when my son got his license here in Alabama I was shocked. They made him drive less than 5 minutes across a parking lot, past a hospital and back into the license exam parking lot. My nephew the same age of my son had to drive 30 minutes to get his license in Illinois, after having completed a driver's education class. I hear Iowa is even stricter. I don't blame southerners or yankees. I do blame the state of Alabama for giving licenses to people just because they can manuver across a parking lot and back around. We are all to blame in some way because we talk on cell phones, change stations/cd's on the stereo, dig in purses, etc. which can really be a distraction when we need to be totally focused on driving.

We should strive to be more aware esp. when driving because all our lives are precious whether we are black, white, latino, asian, rich, poor or a certain class of people. We are all precious in God's sight. The world would be such a better place to live if people would be kinder to others. Take care of your own lives and try to realize how others feel, especially people who are effected by such tragedies such as this young man who died.

    SammyK,

You are a wise and decent man. Thank you.

    bad drivers off the road?????

Like Ted (i need another drink) Kennedy???
  • JohnJ · 11 months ago
Why would you bring up Kennedy? I never had a chance to vote for or against him and besides, no charges were ever brought against him.
Should I bring up George Wallace every time we talk about Alabama? I assure you that Kennedy is much better thought of by this nation than Wallace was.
  • UncleSam · 11 months ago
You where talking about BAD drivers and Ted ( i need another drink) Kennedy first comes to mind.

no charges were ever brought against him??

Sure the Kennedy's buy their way out of trouble,as ALWAYS
  • JohnJ · 11 months ago
I'm srue you believe that. Just like so many rednecks your first thought is to insult a Kennedy as if everyone from Mass supported them. Very narrow minded on your part but I'm used to that.
That fact is the bad driver we're talking about here is from Alabama, killed someone and left the scene and has been arrested. Kennedy was never even arrested.

    youre all crazy
  • fhinton · 11 months ago
I would look for alcohol to have been involved in this matter.
  • JohnJ · 11 months ago
It won't be known because of the time lag between the accident and her arrest UNLESS she blames it on drug/alcohol problems. Or she can blame it on the devil.
  • fhinton · 11 months ago
She looked drunk or stoned when the photo was taken.
  • JohnJ · 11 months ago
The accident happened on Wednesday and she was arrested on Thursday. Basing an allegation of drugs or alcohol use on her mug shot is very irresponsible Freddie.
  • fhinton · 11 months ago
John, I used to work in a bar. This is something I used to see every night. Its not just her mug shot that I was basing it on. It was also long experience dealing with drunks. I was asking people like this woman to leave on average just about every weekend.

Gordon was my fiancee' and I thought that we had the rest of our lives to spend together, and some ignorant woman killed him. Gordon was my partner, family, and best friend. He was a very friendly and caring person, that was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends, family, and strangers. Gordon is in a much better place than we are at right now, and I take comfort in knowing that he is in heaven. The memories that we shared will remain in my heart and mind forever.
  • Rishaundra · 11 months ago
Gordon James Whitman was the love of my life, my soulmate and my bestfriend. I will love him for the rest of my life. I'm just glad that we had one last chance to look into each others eyes and say I Love You. On last touch, one last kiss, on last hug. Who knew that 4 days later he would be gone forever. Gee, I love you so much baby and I always will. I know that you're happy, at peace and in a much better place than you were. We just spoke about spending the rest of our lives together and that woman took you away 2 days later. I will cherish our love for the rest of my life. You may not have been my fiance' but we were soulmates, the love of each others lives, you uplifted my spirits with your gorgeous smile and just to hear your voice calms my heart. Just like you told me- you warm my heart and soul too baby. I will miss you for the rest of my life. I promised you that I wouldn't cry but it's going to take me some time. I love you Gee! PHD & PAM forever :)

Gordon J. Whitman and I had a friendship that stood the test of time. We had so many memories that can not be taken away. The women that hit Gordon treated him he did not have any family or friends that cared about him. She was wrong; he was surrounded by love everyday of his 31 years on earth. He will be missed, and forever loved.
